215 Families in 2 Years!

Helping Hands - Starkville provides emergency funds for Oktibbeha County Residents with the goals of:

  1. Keeping people in their homes - most families in America are one bad bill away from eviction.

  2. Lowering eviction in our county - Starkville's housing boom is great for homeowners, but tough on renters.

  3. Giving participants tools for future success - each participant receives training on: a. how to lower utility bills, b. creating a monthly budget for savings, OR c. Improving Employability

  4. Participants can receive up to $250 toward a utility bill (paid directly to the company).

  5. Participants can use the program once every six months.

  6. Participants will be referred to Partner Organizations like Starkville Strong, Habitat for Humanity, or the J. L. King Center for services like GED courses, workforce development training, and MS Works.

  7. Trinity Presbyterian Church and Starkville Strong will host and direct the program along with community volunteers one day each week.

  8. 70% of our clients in 2024-2025 were on fixed income or working. We helped write 40+ resumes and performed job searches with clients to search for higher paying jobs.

  9. Starkville Utilities partially funds Helping Hands with the Power of Change Program. Sign up here to round up!

Community of 1000 Members support Helping Hands and our annual large community grant. Helping Hands helps 130 families/year avoid eviction with financial literacy, education on lowering utility bills, and help with a utility bill or rent. This year, our large community grant will focus on offsetting lost income during this important renovation process downtown for Starkville's small businesses.
